Preliminary Level Examinations
- Two written papers (3 hours each), completed on the same day (morning and afternoon).
- A certificate is issued for scores of 67% or higher.
Professional Level Examinations
- Theory: Two written papers (3 hours each), scheduled on the same day.
- Practical: Hands-on exam typically held the following day.

These standardized exams objectively measure a candidate’s comprehensive understanding of gemmology, ensuring that key concepts and practical skills can be applied confidently under exam conditions—without the use of internet resources or reference materials. Please note: CGA students and students from CGA Affiliate institutions (Vancouver Community College, UBC, George Brown College, and Nova Scotia College of Art and Design) are eligible for preferred exam pricing.
